Camping Financial Analyst

Mission & Authority

As a follower of Jesus Christ and a minister of His Gospel, demonstrate a basic understanding of Young Life’s ministry strategy and participate in providing excellent camping experiences for individuals to encounter Jesus Christ and know the truth of God’s love for them.

Through both continued formal training and direct experience, lead staff and foster an environment where guests, staff, and volunteers are well cared for using the cornerstones of Biblical stewardship and the YL financial systems. This is a support role that works alongside the Camping Financial Services team to administer all aspects of Young Life camp finance.

​Essential Duties:

Spiritual Formation: Intentionally provide opportunities for staff to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus.

  • Participate in opportunities for growing deeper in your relationship with Jesus departmentally and otherwise.
  • Develop an annual growth plan and engage in periodic check in times with the Director of Camp Finance.

Interpersonal Relationships: Help build relationships that reflect the character of God with guests, staff, vendors, and neighbors to foster healthy community.

  • Foster a close working relationship with the accounting department to ensure accurate and relevant systems that support the reporting and accounting functions of the camping department.
  • Work with camps, national department leads, and other leadership to understand and deliver user-oriented solutions regarding enterprise resource planning initiatives.
  • Build relationships with camp staff that encourage an open, feedback oriented, and effective environment.

Attentive Hospitality: Equip servant leaders who anticipate and respond to the needs of our guests, staff, and vendors, through Christ-like service.

  • Demonstrate a posture of service that anticipates guest needs and responds with professionalism through intentional decisions and systems.
  • Provide technical support for budgeting, planning, forecasting, and various ad-hoc reporting requests.
  • Act as a resource to camping leadership on projects, audit support, and finance related human resource topics.
  • Operate financial training through internal calls, in person events, and other opportunities as required.
  • Assist camp bookkeepers and other camp staff with finance related questions, research, and other needs.

Comprehensive Stewardship:​ Manage with integrity the finances, people, buildings, and equipment that have been entrusted to our ministry.

  • Support the business planning cycle and the creation of reports that give leadership the tools to make informed financial decisions.
  • Assist in the research, creation and maintenance of the applications and processes that are used to capture, summarize, and analyze pertinent camping business data.
  • Analyze ongoing financial results for camping department business units and funds.
  • Conduct cost analysis as appropriate.
  • Perform market research, data mining, business intelligence, and valuation comps.
  • Assist in preparation of executive level quarter-end and year-end financial analysis reports for the camping department.

  • Execute daily responsibilities with attention to the standards and metrics required for excellent camp operations.
  • Support Young Life’s e-commerce efforts by assisting in this specific area’s budgeting, reporting, bookkeeping, and general financial functions.
  • Develop systems to support camping leadership in the execution of their financial budgets and financial transactions.
  • Create flexible and relevant financial modeling systems to aid forecasting and planning processes as well as to provide the basis for key strategic decisions.
  • Keep up to date the camping finance task calendar, finance training materials, and user manuals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job-Specific Working Condition​s

  • Strongly preferred for work in office environment at the Service Center in Colorado Springs, CO. Open to remote work.
  • Minimal travel required.
  • This position had an anticipated salary range of $48,308 - $60,462 annually depending on relevant experience and education.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Accounting or finance degree preferred.
  • College degree or equivalent experience required.

Training Expectations

  • Engage in relevant training calls as required.
  • Identify other trainings to support professional development.

Experience Required for the Job

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and comfortable working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with financial accounting and business management principles.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite. This includes a strong familiarity with Excel and data visualization software.
  • Familiarity with Workday enterprise resource planning is a plus.
  • Previous experience with financial planning and modeling systems is a plus.
