We are a great team of adult committee folks who are seeking a Christ-centered and energetic leader to lead our well supported area to the next level of impact in the lives of kids! Our area has a 40-year history, and we are currently impacting the lives of middle school students, high school students and teen moms. Our next leader will be well supported and challenged to spiritually nurture and equip our dozen volunteer leaders, three volunteer team leaders and two part-time staff. Our valuable part-time staff include a YoungLives​ coordinator and a high-capacity administrator who works with kids as a leader. The Capital District Area (Albany, N.Y.) presently has a strong ministry in Burnt Hills Ballston Lake and developing ministry in Saratoga Springs and Ballston Spa. The Capital District Area has a solid financial base for an experienced area director, a strong culture of summer camp and great relationships in the community to facilitate exciting contact work opportunities.

While there is significant potential for growth, the primary responsibility is to solidify existing ministry in Burnt Hills Ballston Lake. The next step is to recruit volunteer teams to build out newer ministries in Ballston Spa and Saratoga Springs.

Responsibilities:

Spiritual Development:​ Following Jesus in prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, personal growth and church relationships.

  • Spiritually lead volunteer leaders and part-time staff.
  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines in the context of active participation in a church community.
  • Ensure all ministry is carried out with a dependence on prayer that flows from a personal relationship with Jesus.

Leadership Development: Equipping leaders, committee and staff includes volunteer care, recruiting, team building, training, supervision and vision casting.

  • Recruit, train and lead new volunteer leaders and staff to reach more kids and start more work.
  • Work with the committee team, volunteer team leaders and area staff to develop vision and strategy to reach more kids.
  • Develop consistent gatherings with committee, leaders and staff to build unity and cast vision.

Direct Ministry: Personally model the “C’s of Young Life” in one of the current ministries (BHBL).

  • Coach and train the C’s, especially in the developing ministries.
  • Develop a strong camping culture with rhythms from summer camps to school-year camp weekends.
  • Serve on summer and weekend assignments at a Young Life property when needed or assigned by the regional director.

Resource Development: Fuel the ministry with fundraising events, donor care and community/individual engagement.

  • Build new and deepen existing relationships in the community to support and strengthen existing work with kids while seeking opportunities of growth when appropriate.
  • Work with the committee to ensure partners own the area vision and budget.
  • Ensure excellence in communication with donors and lead the effort to raise necessary funds to carry out the ministry of Young Life in this area, keeping the area consistently in cash surplus.

Ministry Support: Accounting, administration, communication, data management and strategic planning.

  • Work closely with the area administrator to manage finances with accountability and transparency, as well as data with accuracy.
  • Communicate internally with excellence and professionalism to help guide the teams forward.
  • Lead yearly strategic ministry planning with the committee, leaders and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Must have completed Core Training – Phase One.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • A call to reach kids with the Gospel.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
