Description:

​​There are nearly 300,000 teenagers of active-duty U.S. military parents who are stationed all over the world. These "military brats" (term of endearment) live in an environment where, "the military mission calls all the shots — tells the family where and when it's going to move, what the conditions are going to be and whether the father or mother is going away and for how long."

​We are currently doing incarnational ministry at many military installations around the world. You will have the opportunity to lead and oversee the local Young Life Military programs, known as Club Beyond, which are ecumenically focused and outreach-oriented. Previous experience with military culture is helpful but not necessary as we train all staff to be successful in a military community. Find out more about Young Life Military.

Responsibilities:

​Leadership Development

  • ​Provide overall direction, encouragement, vision and leadership to European installation ministries.
  • Assist Young Life Military in casting vision to “let every military brat believe.”
  • Assist Young Life Military in developing diverse leadership and ministries.
  • Work with the recruiting team to recruit, interview, hire and place staff.
  • Supervise, develop and evaluate staff, providing resources and experiences needed to implement the vision.
    ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ — Facilitate departures when necessary and as assigned.
  • ​Assist the Young Life Military trainer in the development and implementation of Young Life Military trainings.
  • Conduct assignments or events as assigned by the deputy director, including discernment weekends, community director school, staff development, leader training and more.

​Resource Development

  • ​Help areas develop committees (Adult Support Teams) and communicate regularly with committee and Relationship Centered Engagement (RCE) chairs.
  • Help develop and lead the installations' fundraising strategy, ensuring excellence in communication to donors.
  • Expected to raise a portion of the person budget as agreed upon with the regional director.
  • Work with the area adults to develop good community and church relationships.
  • Help recruit, develop, encourage and sustain a diverse local committee in a consistently changing environment.

​Direct Ministry

  • ​Assist in the development of new areas and identify interested adults to help the ministry grow.
  • Visit areas as needed or assigned, including routine and emergency crisis visits.
  • Observe and evaluate local areas to ensure Young Life Military is carried out with excellence.

​Ministry Support

  • ​Develop relationships with key military leaders and chaplains at the local installation to facilitate ministry credibility, growth and sustainability.
  • Maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management.
  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone within the scope of ministry.
  • Set yearly strategic ministry plan growth and initiatives to grow the ministry; review them on a regular basis.
  • Implement and support Young Life Military initiatives.
  • Accept both short- and long-term assignments of projects.

​Working Conditions

  • ​Living in Germany near the Young Life Military International Service Center is required.
  • Office environment in Germany at the Young Life Military International Service Center.
  • Some travel will be required within Europe.
  • Weekends and week-long assignment will be required.​

Qualifications:

​Education

  • ​Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree and additional biblical/theological course work would be a plus.

Experience Required for the Job

  • 10 or more years of Young Life experience required, TO INCLUDE time on Young Life staff
  • Spiritual leadership, personal integrity, teachable heart, spirit of grace, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proven relational skills and growing in both emotional and cultural intelligence ​
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven leadership in developing diverse staff and ministries
  • Military knowledge is highly recommended to succeed in this position
  • Must be able to supervise at a distance
