Glen Ellyn Young Life is looking for a staff associate to lead ministry at Glenbard West High School. The primary responsibilities of this position include recruiting and supervising volunteer leaders, engaging in direct ministry with students, and developing and maintaining relationships with adults in the community. This includes Glenbard West faculty, parents, committee members, current and potential donors, pastors, and other youth workers. There is already a large team of volunteers — primarily college students — who lead at Glenbard West. Young Life has been present at Glenbard West High School for more than 30 years and is in a healthy season of kid and adult engagement. The area is looking for a candidate who will maintain the health of the ministry in addition to promoting its growth in the community.

The staff associate will be working alongside another full-time Glen Ellyn staff member and a part-time administrator. The Glen Ellyn staff team shares an office with a neighboring Young Life area that has three full-time staff members. This environment fosters a strong community among staff from both areas and provides a unique opportunity for collaboration and support.

Responsibilities:

  • Model excellent relational ministry.
  • Disciple high school students.
  • Recruit and train volunteer leaders.
  • Provide spiritual leadership and ministry direction to volunteers.
  • Coordinate club, Campaigners and camp.
  • Develop relationships with parents to better serve their students.
  • Collaborate with other Glen Ellyn Young Life staff members.
  • Assist the area director and committee with area fundraisers.
  • Assist the area director in caring for committee members and donors.
  • Serve in school-year weekend and summer camp (one week to four weeks) ministry settings.
  • Complete the necessary administrative tasks required to lead ministry programs, camp trips, etc.
  • Fulfill required Young Life training courses (New Staff, Leadership I and II, Winter Training and Apologetics).
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Passionate about introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith.
  • Personal values align with Young Life’s mission and vision.
  • Ability to raise $20,000 of personal support annually.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Humble and teachable attitude.
  • Young Life or similar youth ministry experience preferred.
  • Completion of a Young Life Leader Training program preferred.

Notes:

Glen Ellyn is a western suburb of Chicago. It is located about 30 miles outside the city and is about a 45-minute train ride to the loop. There are two high schools and five middle schools in the school district that are served by Glen Ellyn Young Life. Wheaton College is a private Christian college in a neighboring suburb where we recruit the majority of our volunteer leaders.
