Lower Columbia Young Life is looking for an area director to manage and grow its current ministry. Located in Longview/Kelso, this tight-knit community has a large church population and huge community involvement in the three high schools located here. Young Life has been present for more than 20 years in this community and has reliable support from long-time donors, with our biggest financial support being through the annual banquet.

There are currently two part-time staff under this position -- a (10 hours/week) mission staff at Mark Morris High School and a (20 hours/week) YoungLives​ coordinator. Ministry teams are currently running at two high schools and two middle schools with opportunities to grow to 7+ schools. Along with the staff is a running committee excited to help support this new addition to the team.

A successful candidate for this area would be energetic, self-motivated, and a kid-centric person who has a strong desire to grow ministry and maintain and grow donor relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Prayerful, visionary and strategic leadership.
  • Leadership of multi-generational volunteers.
  • Recruit, develop and care for adult and student leaders.
  • Help coordinate club and Campaigners at existing schools.
  • Model excellence in direct ministry (contact work, club, Campaigners and camp) by going with other leaders.
  • Supervision of current staff (part-time mission staff and part-time YoungLives​ coordinator).
  • Partner with the current committee and recruit to fill open rolls.
  • Training leaders and staff in ministry knowledge.
  • Lead and assist in area fundraising efforts, and host and raise funds at the annual banquet.
  • Cultivate relationships with new and existing community and church leadership.

Qualifications:

  • A deep passion for Jesus and prayer and a heart to share that with others.
  • Committed to Young Life’s Statement of Faith.
  • Strong initiative/self-motivation.
  • Hard working, punctual, accountable and dependable.
  • A love for teenagers and the ability to connect with students in their space.
  • Creative and innovative when it comes to ministry practices.
  • Technology literate: have a working knowledge of Google, Excel, social media platforms and ability to learn Young Life platforms for tracking fundraising, developing and implementing budgeting, and maintaining various other databases.
  • Recruiting, mentoring and pastoral abilities are critical.
  • Ability to raise personal financial support and maintain donor base.
  • Preference of Young Life experience and area director training.
