Description:

Cal State Bakersfield sits in the heart of Kern County, which is the largest geographic county in California with no Young Life presence. You would be part of developing a ministry that would have the potential to impact not only 10,000+ undergrads, but more than 80,000 young people across Kern County.

Responsibilities:

• Train and develop student leaders.
• Oversee student outreach and discipleship; coordinate and lead a weekly club.
• Develop, oversee and lead small groups.
• Plan “camping” opportunities (e.g., service projects, spring break trips, work week, etc.).
• Pursue and meet college-age students in their environment.
• Build community among students and the leadership team.
• Promote community ownership; communicate the vision of Young Life College.
• Connect with adults in the community and at the university.
• Implement and lead college leader recruitment.
• Fundraising and financial management.
• Develop and maintain good donor relationships.
• Eventually, help train new leaders that will be placed in various schools around Bakersfield.
• Mentor and train a student staff for a high school start-up.

Qualifications:

• Deep, abiding faith in Jesus Christ and love for people.
• College degree preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple projects.
• Willingness to be coached in personal fundraising.
• Active participation in a local church.
• Strong organizational skills.

Notes:

Bakersfield is a large (pop. 350,000) city with a small-town feel. The people in the community are friendly and truly care about their community. There is a strong contingent of Young Life supporters ready to back a staff person. It is one of the most affordable places to live in California (median home price is less than 300k). Bakersfield is also two hours away from the mountains, L.A. and the coast.
