Learning Associate I - Asia Pacific Division
Mission & Authority
Using the unique ministry gifts honed over a number of years in field ministry, give particular focus to training, for the purpose of helping Young Life reach its mission goals.
Essential Duties:
Spiritual Development – “Following Jesus” includes: Prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.
- Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word.
- Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines in the context of active participation in a church community.
- Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
- Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
- Ensure that all Young Life ministry in the Division, is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer that takes place out of the overflow of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Leadership Development – “Equipping leaders, committee and staff.” Includes: Key volunteer care, recruiting, teambuilding and training, supervision and vision casting.
- Help transmit the ministry values of Young Life.
- Provide leadership to division wide training events.
- Provide leadership to the planning for APAC New Staff Training, Emerging Leader, Train the Trainers and Area Director School, as well as additional training experiences.
- Understand and advocate for the fulfillment of the expectations of Leadership I and II with area directors, regional trainers, and regional/country directors in the division.
- Provide input to the continued revision of Leadership I and II.
- Deliver resources and expectations to area and regional trainers in the division. This will happen through teleconferences or “Train the Trainers” conferences.
- Monitor mid-year and final evaluations. Follow up with trainers and regional directors who have not reported.
- Create a pipeline for future staff from the Division’s DGL & student staff program.
Resource Development – “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team.
- Raise personal support to fully fund the position.
Direct Ministry – “Proclaiming and discipling” includes contact work, club, campaigners and camp.
- As requested by and under the direction of the Learning Coordinator and SVP:
- Create and provide follow-up for training events such as new staff training, area director school and more.
- Participate in the training of staff associates as requested.
- Assist Regional & Country directors in the development of Young Life leadership programs.
- Lead in your local area is not required but is added value
Ministry Support – “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.
- Maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management, adhering to all Young Life policies and procedures.
- Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone within the scope of ministry.
- Develop an appropriate system for reporting, expense report responsibilities and the use of Divisional funds using Young Life accounting applications.
- Accept both short and long-term assignments and projects.
- Ensure good communication on training issues with the senior vice president, regional/country directors and trainers in the division. Represent area and divisional concerns to the Young Life Training department and effectively represent the Training department to the field.
- Provide accountability for training standards and communicate strengths and weaknesses to the senior vice president.
- Serve as a trainer and mentor to Staff Associates.
Job-Specific Working Conditions
- Will include the extremes of a camp assignment, i.e. heat/cold, dirt, long hours and the physical demands of hiking, horseback riding, boating, etc. Staff person must be able to handle these conditions.
- Remote within the Asia Pacific Division

Qualifications:
Education
- BA or BS
- MA and/or additional Biblical/Theological or education course work is a plus.
Experience Required for the Job
- Minimum of 10 years in Young Life field ministry preferable in Asia Pacific.
- Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Lives in Asia Pacific
