Camping Commitment Statement

As a follower of Jesus Christ and a minister of His gospel, model a full understanding of Young Life’s ministry strategy and equip and lead a team of staff in providing excellent camping experiences for individuals to encounter Jesus Christ and know the truth of God’s love for them.

Mission & Authority

Through both continued training and direct experience, lead staff and prepare an environment where guests, staff and volunteers are well cared for by preparing a distraction free environment for kids to encounter Jesus Christ. This is a role that works alongside the Sites and Facilities Superintendent to learn and help lead all aspects of the Sites and Facilities Department.

Essential Duties:

Spiritual Formation: Intentionally provide opportunities for staff to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus.

  • With direction from supervisor, develop an annual personal spiritual growth plan.
  • Participate in a culture where the spiritual formation of volunteers is both a priority and responsibility.

Attentive Hospitality: Equip servant leaders who anticipate and respond to the needs of our guests, staff and vendors, through Christ-like service.

  • Demonstrate a posture of service that anticipates guest needs and responds with professionalism through intentional decisions and systems.
  • Develop a recognition and action plan for guest needs/requests in order to partner with our guests; meeting their needs and supporting an environment where guests are heard.

Interpersonal Relationships: Help build relationships that reflect the character of God with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors to foster healthy community.

  • Participate in interdepartmental staff relationship by engaging in partnerships throughout the property.

  • At all times, maintain a pleasant, positive attitude toward staff and others involved in the program, conveying the idea of maximum service consistent with the capabilities of the property and equipment.
  • Work closely with the site and facilities superintendent, guest services coordinator and assigned staff on all matters involving use of the property for the program.
  • Cooperate with all other departments on the property to operate as a team and produce a well-functioning body.
  • Relate to the local community in a manner best suited to carry out the public relations policy of Young Life as presented by the camping manager.

Comprehensive Stewardship:Manage with integrity the finances, people, buildings and equipment that have been entrusted to our ministry.

  • Develop and equip interns and volunteers to participate in comprehensive stewardship of Sites and Facilities department.
  • Support an environment where volunteers feel valued both as contributors and as people.
  • Supervise staff whom the site and facilities superintendent may assign to you, both summer and winter. This includes full and part-time camping staff, in addition to maintenance summer staff, work crew, volunteers and other people who may be assisting with a maintenance or project function on the property.
  • Work closely with the work crew and summer staff bosses in making the work experience a positive time of personal growth for the individuals that have volunteered their time at the property.
  • Maintain operating records as required by the site and facilities superintendent.

Talent Development: Through a consistent and accountable evaluation process, we identify and provide opportunities for staff in continuing education, leadership development, career-pathing and cross-training.

  • Demonstrate a desire to grow through engagement in the Individual Development Plan process and participation in training and development opportunities.

Embracing Excellence: Standing on the platform of national standards and metrics we gladly prepare an environment that glorifies Jesus Christ.

  • Execute daily responsibilities with attention to the standards and metrics required for excellent camp operations.
  • Develop an understanding of the Young Life Standards and how they affect the way you conduct yourself with staff, guests, and volunteers.

  • Document all work completed and items maintained.
  • Execute all duties as assigned.
  • Supervise/assist with small and capital projects as assigned.

Training Expectations:

  • Pace Calls that align with the employee’s IDP goals.
  • Certification(s) in electrical, plumbing, framing, waste water or HVAC desired.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain certifications.

Camp or Job Specific Working Conditions:

  • Schedule: ​ 40 hours per week. ​ Some overtime possible. ​ 13 paid holidays plus paid-time-off and sick leave.
  • Must be capable of spending most of the workday standing or walking.
  • Must be adaptable to all work environments, inside and out.
  • Must be capable of working on projects over/above head, as well as bending, kneeling, crawling in/around attics, crawl spaces, etc.
  • Capable of digging, shoveling and raking various compounds.
  • Applicants must be willing to work a revolving schedule which includes night and weekend hours.​
  • Washington Family Ranch is a very remote property (located one hour from the closest grocery store) with a large dedicated staff that results in approximately 120 people living year round at camp. This creates a unique and spiritually rewarding environment of Christian work and fellowship. There are two camps located here: a high school focused camp (Canyon) and a middle school camp (Creekside). Affordable housing is available on property.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain Level II drinking water treatment plant and Level 1 drinking water distribution system
  • Operate and maintain Level 1 wastewater collection system and Level 1 wastewater treatment system
  • Operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of a wide range of system components (pumps, valves, hydrants, controls, chemical feed, etc.)
  • Perform required daily data collection and system checks
  • Perform leak detection and repair of underground piping systems
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks on system equipment
  • Use maps, drawings, and locating tools to perform underground utility locates
  • Operate a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment properly and safely
  • Handle and use water treatment chemicals properly and safely
  • Capable of lifting 50 lb. and working outside in any conditions
  • Capable of working independently or with other team members
  • Operation and maintenance of commercial swimming pools
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Any necessary certifications as required by the local municipality.

Certifications

Required:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Oregon Level 2 Drinking Water Treatment certification or the ability to obtain within 1 year
  • Oregon Level 1 Drinking Water Distribution certification or the ability to obtain within 1 year

Preferred (not required)

  • Oregon Level 1 Wastewater Collections certification
  • Oregon Level 1 Wastewater Distribution certification

Qualifications and Experience Required for the Job:

  • Strong proficiency in 2-3 trades, ability to teach/lead other staff in those trades.
  • Ability to organize and supervise people and tasks.
  • General knowledge of multiple plant systems.
  • Positive, flexible attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Physically able to do the work.
