Young Life is looking for a qualified area director to minister and serve international school students in Sofia, a city of approximately 1.2 million people, in the shadow of Vitosha Mountain. It hosts many foreign diplomats, business people, teachers and missionaries who send their kids to English-speaking international schools (or do homeschooling). Bulgaria has become a haven for digital nomads and professionals who want to live in an affordable, culturally rich and beautiful country with mountains, forest and the sea.

Young Life Sofia creates a supportive community for international middle and high school students who are away from home because of their parents' job assignments. Young Life provides club meetings, Campaigners, special events, camps and service projects where international teens can get away from their daily pressures and concerns to have fun, explore new places, experience adventure, meet new friends, and reflect on their lives.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate spiritual leadership on a personal and professional level.
  • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners, service projects and camping to other leaders.
  • Recruit, train and develop volunteer leaders to build a team that reflects the community.
  • Raise 100% of financial support per individual budget and maintain good donor-care practices.
  • Oversee the resource development of the area; meet with donors and oversee fundraising events and/or opportunities.
  • Communicate ministry updates and progress to donor partners.
  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders and donors for area records.
  • Be willing to partner with a local international church.
  • Participate in staff and training events as required.
  • Meet regularly with the national Bulgaria staff to encourage one another and work together on special projects or camps.
  • Serve on summer assigned teams at Young Life Bulgaria camp or other camps in the Central and Eastern European Region.

Qualifications:

  • College degree required.
  • Young Life team leader experience required; Young Life staff experience preferred.
  • Adventurous and adaptable attitude for a new culture. Must be able to relate, work and build community in a multicultural, multilingual area.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a multicultural, multilingual environment.
  • Vision and ability to recruit, develop and multiply leaders.
  • Ability to identify and develop fundraising opportunities within the local community.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Three-year minimum commitment.

Benefits:

Housing supplements and cost of living adjustments help make living overseas affordable for international staff. In addition, staff may be reimbursed for the purchase or lease of a vehicle, an annual personal trip to see family, pre-K-12th grade private school education for dependent children, language school, moving expenses, and a one-time bonus of up to two-months' salary.
