​ Executive Director — Hong Kong

Description

Comprehensive leadership and development responsibilities of staff, teams, systems, and programs to effectively achieve the mission’s objectives of reaching Hong Kong adolescents with the Gospel and making disciples of the next generation.

Responsibilities:

I. Ministry Training/Spiritual Formation

Spiritual Life and Formation

  • Develop and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of a church community, that lead to a vibrant spiritual life.
  • Staff will be accountable to their team for a daily devotional life.
  • Lead teams and individuals supervised in their own spiritual development.
  • Ensure that all Young Life ministry in Hong Kong is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer that takes place out of the overflow of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Mission-wide Training

  • Attend and complete requisite mission-wide training and position specific training.

Divisional/Regional Training

  • Training may be supervised SVP designed to develop and strengthen executive leadership capability and personal discipleship. Participate and contribute to Divisional training events

II. Direct Ministry

Club

  • Oversee development of Young Life Clubs as applicable and observe and support field staff intheir campus ministry.
  • Ensure regular Club gatherings for each ministry are conducted with excellence.

Contact Work

  • Maintain personal active ministry contact with students to be effective in this role.

Campaigners

  • Model excellent Young Life ministry through your own Campaigner group.
  • Ensure the development and growth of Campaigner groups across the city.

Camp

  • Develop and implement summer and school year shared adventure strategies to achieve mission wide objectives with excellence.

III. Leadership Development

RTD (Recruit, Train and Deploy)

  • Cast vision for reaching “every kid” across Hong Kong.
  • Recruit, interview, hire and place staff and volunteers within the region.
  • Develop and cultivate a prospective list of future Young Life staff, Matthew 9:38 List.
  • Supervise, develop and evaluate staff, providing resources and experiences needed to implement the vision.
  • Facilitate departures when necessary.
  • Participate in regional leadership gatherings and the implementation of a leadership development strategy for Hong Kong (leadership retreats, recruiting strategy, leadership pipeline).
  • Develop and mentor team leaders.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with key adults in the community (principals, pastors, parents, committee members, etc…)

IV. Resource Development

  • Recruit, develop, encourage and sustain a diverse regional board to support and partner in achieving regional objectives.
  • Develop and lead the region’s development strategy, ensuring excellence in communication with partners.
  • Coordinate and conduct quality events (banquets) which reflect Young Life’s capacity to impact kids and warrant the investment of participant’s personal and corporate resources.
  • Work with board and development staff to identify and cultivate individual, corporate, and institutional partners (foundations, churches, etc…) for the advancement of the mission.

V. Support and Administration

Personal Development

  • Tailor plan for personal leadership development in areas of strength, deficiencies or needs in preparation for promotion.
  • Maintain professional integrity (i.e. office hours, dress, communication, conduct and time management as agreed upon with supervisor.)
  • Set and review yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to grow the mission of Young Life in Hong Kong.

Systems

  • Maintain accurate information systems and use of Salesforce, YL Connect and YL systems.
  • Ensure effective marketing, promotion, and communication processes are in place and Assist in marketing and creation of event promotion materials, newsletters, and communication pieces.
  • Participate in the development and execution of an area communication strategy.

Administration

  • Supervise Administrative suite to ensure compliance with all local laws and authorities in regards to tax, insurance, accounting, audit and donor relations.
  • Interface with mission-wide offices to facilitate communication and implementation of all Young Life leadership initiatives, policies and procedures.
  • Manage finances and adhere to budgeting guidelines with stewardship, accountability and transparency using mission-wide applications.

VI.Other

Camp Assignments

  • As assigned, participate in camp assignments in the US, internationally and/or locally.

Divisional Events

  • Implement and support Divisional and mission-wide initiatives and as directed, engage in divisional events, trainings, fundraising projects, etc…

Working Conditions:

  • Flexible and Variable, irregular hours and locations.

Qualifications:

​Education:

  • Masters degree required.

Preferred Experience and Demonstrated Qualities:

  • 5-10 years experience in related ministry leadership with proven leadership development track record
  • Proven relational skills with both students and adults and broadly diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong strategic planning with ability to design and manage culturally relevant events and marketing to achieve results
  • Ability to recruit, motive and inspire team members
  • Strong drive, self-starter, and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong interpersonal and relational skills with an ability to manage diverse, cross-cultural networks
  • Proven decision making and critical thinking
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Visionary leader capable of recruiting and building teams of stakeholders.
  • Creative and innovative.
  • Strong character and principled leader.
  • Driven and self-motivated with excellent time management skills to meet deadlines.
