Area Director — Greencastle (Putnam County), IN

Young Life in Putnam County, Ind., is seeking an experienced relational leader who has the vision to build the Young Life ministry to reach students throughout the county. With Young Life College in its fourth year at DePauw University and a local ministry in Greencastle Schools, a foundation is in place to welcome and support an area director who is motivated to expand impact to reach students in all four county school districts.

The area director will have a unique opportunity to start new and expand existing ministry and make a lasting impact throughout our community. The job will require a passion for pursuing the next kid, for recruiting and developing leaders to grow and sustain the ministry, as well as excellent communication and organization with both students and adults. With an authentic focus on Jesus, both personally and in the community, the area director will partner with the committee in strategies to initiate and sustain the growth and health of Putnam County Young Life.

Responsibilities:

Spiritual Development

  • Has a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and is actively growing in ways outside of the Young Life ministry.
  • Develops a yearly personal growth plan which fosters deepening discipleship with Jesus.
  • Grasps the idea of “relational ministry” and earning the right to be heard with students.
  • Spiritually develops volunteer leaders, committee, and students in the local area.
  • Ensures all Young Life ministry in the area is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer.

Leadership Development/Direct Ministry

  • Able to inspire, cast vision, and unify groups of people.
  • Invites new volunteer committee and leaders into the ministry while giving them ownership and helping them develop as leaders.
  • Models consistency and excellence in building relationships with students, and programmatic events including Bible studies, outreach-related activities, and leader meetings. These are often night-time meetings.
  • Implements a training program to help volunteers understand and be excellent in their roles with students, and to help each school/ministry team be healthy and effective.
  • Executes a camp strategy that maximizes student opportunities to respond and react to the Christian faith. This includes weeklong camping and weekend camping trips throughout the year as scheduled.

Resource Development

  • Actively partners with the area committee to ensure the local area finances are consistently healthy, with giving exceeding the agreed budget.
  • Helps to develop and execute a financial strategy to achieve budgetary goals. This includes personal fundraising, fundraising events, and inviting area donations.
  • Relational fundraising is a consistent part of the job.
  • Is the “Chief Asker, Communicator, and Storyteller.”
  • Ensures a communication plan for the ministry to reach new, current, and prospective donors, students, leaders, staff, and committee.
  • Build a positive perception in the community of Young Life as an excellent resource for youth.

Ministry Support

  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct, communication, and time management.
  • Manage finances with stewardship, accountability, and transparency using missionwide applications.
  • Set a yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to reach every kid; review on a regular basis.

National, Divisional, and Regional Responsibilities

  • Pursues national, divisional, and regional trainings as assigned.
  • Travels when necessary through the year.
  • Attends month-long assignments at Young Life properties in the summer when assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A vital, growing relationship with Jesus Christ which is built on the Word and Spirit of God.
  • A call, ability, and passion for students to meet and follow Jesus (one-on-one and in small/large groups). This passion is for all types of students, with a heart of belonging for students of all backgrounds.
  • Proven relational and communication skills with both students and adults.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Desire and proven ability to lead and work in a team.
  • Strong administrative skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, adapt, and be flexible.
  • A four-year college degree prior to start date.
  • Prior Young Life experience preferred.
