Mission Staff (Part-Time) — Leelanau, MI

Description:

To serve and execute the Young Life ministry for one of the following school communities (including the middle and high school) in Leelanau County: Leland, Suttons Bay, or Northport.

The school community chosen for this role will be determined by the area committee as they assess the local needs and the staff candidate’s local connections (if any).

Responsibilities:

To execute direct ministry, administrative tasks, and training in one of the following school districts (middle/high school) in one specific community in northern Leelanau County. This school will be determined by the committee as they take into account the staff person's connections and location and the local needs (Leland, Suttons Bay, Northport).

Leadership Development (40%)

  • Recruit, train, mobilize, and retain a team of adult Young Life leaders who are executing the 5 C’s of Young Life.
  • Create a discipleship plan to equip high school Christians to serve as student leaders.
  • Supervise and evaluate volunteers in leadership development, spiritual formation, and ministry with teens.
  • Meet regularly with the volunteer team for ongoing training, ministry planning, and community-building.

The Young Life 5 C’s (30%)

  • Contact Work: Create an effective contact work strategy to reach students and equip your team to do the same, be active in all three levels of contact work (seen and be seen, talk with teens, spend time with teens), train and engage the team in effective contact work, and build relationships with the school staff to establish trust in Young Life.
  • Club: Plan and implement regular club meetings and train and engage the team in leading club.
  • Campaigners and Discipleship: Create an effective discipleship strategy for students and train and engage your team in the discipleship of students.
  • Camp: Plan and implement a summer and school-season camping strategy. Set the example of passionately pursuing teens to attend camp; highly encourage, recruit, and train leaders to attend camp; and create a prayer team to pray for kids and leaders while at camp.
  • Church: Encourage partnerships with local churches and point kids back to the Body of Christ and invite kids to church with you.

Mission Community

  • Area Committee: Attend monthly committee meetings to communicate the successes and needs of the ministry.
  • Leader Support Team: Create a larger support community (parents/community members) that pray for, advocate, and support the ministry and give them tangible ways to participate.
  • Donors: Communicate regularly with area donors to thank them and give them ministry updates.

Administrative (15%)

  • Accounting: Maintain accurate budgets and expense reports.
  • Communication: Practice good communication via email, phone, and text, and know and use Google Drive, spreadsheets, social media, and Salesforce.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate information on students, leaders, and donors.
  • Attend monthly committee meetings to communicate and celebrate ministry happenings.
  • Create and implement annual personal and ministry goals.

Training (15%)

  • Complete New Leader Training.
  • Attend quarterly regional training meetings or missionwide trainings available to all staff.
  • Connect monthly with the associate regional director for ongoing training.
  • Annual evaluation of focused ministry health with the committee chair and associate regional director.
  • Pursue opportunities for personal development and spiritual maturity.

Qualifications:

  • ​ A mature commitment to Jesus and Christian faith as evidenced by life transformation and spiritual growth.
  • Belong to a local church.
  • Experience (volunteer or paid) with students.
  • Proven relational skills with both students and adults.
  • Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • College degree (preferred).
