Eastern Ottawa Young Life is looking for a part-time or full-time mission staff or staff associate. This position's primary responsibility would be to lead in one of our eight unique communities and be involved in one of the local schools in that community. In partnership with the other area staff, this person will complete the five core functions of the area. The mission staff or staff associate would report to the area director and or the associate area director in that community.

Responsibilities:

Direct Ministry (50%) — The area staff, in partnership with the committee, is committed to carrying out Young Life's Mission Statement as a “player-coach” leading and modeling through the essential work of contact work, club, camp and Campaigners. We want to increase the number of students who are introduced to Jesus Christ and help those who know Him to grow in their faith. Your role in this will be to:

  • Serve as a team leader and oversee direct ministry (contact work, club, Campaigners, camp) for one school.

Spiritual Development (10%) — Area staff, in partnership with the committee, will focus on individual and team efforts to “follow Jesus” though the essential work of practicing prayer and spiritual disciplines, gathering for fellowship, promoting growth and health, and establishing church relationships. Your role in this will be to:

  • Practice personal health and seek out and maintain relationships and disciplines in the context of a church community that lead to a vibrant spiritual life.
  • Develop relationships with local churches and connect students and leaders to local churches and other areas that will promote their spiritual growth.

Leadership Development (20%) — Area staff, in partnership with the committee, will work together to develop committee, students, leaders and staff for the mission through the essential work of developing key leaders, recruiting, team building and training, supervising, and vision casting. Your role in this will be to:

  • Help in recruiting, training, equipping and sustaining the committee and leaders in your community.
  • Attend and participate in all meetings dedicated to your leadership growth.

Resource Development (10%)​ — The area staff, in partnership with the committee, is committed to “fueling the ministry” by acquiring time, talent and funds through the essential work of the RCE, major donor relationships, events, and public relations. The goal is to stay fully funded and in a surplus throughout the fiscal year. Your role in this will be to:

  • Develop area, community and personal donors through monthly donations and participation in fundraising events.
  • Help develop working relationships with local pastors, youth pastors and like-minded organizations.

Ministry Support (5%)​ — Area staff, in partnership with the committee, will work together on administrative systems needed to support the core functions of the Young Life ministry through the essential work of accounting, administration, internal communication, data management and strategic planning. Your role in this will be to:

Accounting:

  • There will need to be personal and ministry accounting.

Internal/External Communication:

  • Practice good communication via email, phone and text.
  • Know and use Google Drive, social media, Salesforce, Asana and digital calendar to ensure collaboration between area staff.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.

Data Management:

  • Maintain accurate information on students, leaders and donors for area records.

Strategic Planning:

  • Help plan, organize and execute community meetings with the community committee chair.

Area Projects (5%)​ — Area staff will work together on area projects that will benefit the whole area in completing the five core functions of the area. There will be some area projects on which you will be taking the lead and others on which you will be serving on the team that is developing the project.

  • This is determined based on the team that is assembled.

Working Conditions:
