Staff Associate — Grand Rapids, MI

The Greater Grand Rapids area has vibrant ministry across the city of Grand Rapids and is regularly looking for candidates to help grow our staff team allowing us to develop more leaders and reach more kids.

This staff associate position is a vital leadership position within the city. An ideal staff associate will develop and create a thriving ministry in one to two clubs and provide leadership and supervision to other leaders across the area. This individual must be skilled in relational ministry and have the ability to develop teams of volunteer leaders and adult committee members. Having significant autonomy, this individual must be adept at managing time and a strong communicator.

Responsibilities:

  • Be active in all 5 “C’s” of Young Life:
    Contact Work: Intentionally interact weekly with students informally outside of club.
    Club:​ Help prepare, invite, attend, and participate in weekly club meetings.
    Campaigners:​ Lead or participate in a Campaigners Bible study.
    Camp: Lead one weekend and one summer camp trip.
    Committee:​ Develop and build a team of adults around the ministry of Young Life.
  • Spiritual Development – You will be a spiritual leader responsible for discipling and developing students, leaders, and adults.
  • Leadership Development – You will recruit, develop, train, and support teams of volunteers to serve as leaders and committee members.
  • Resource Development/Fundraising – You will maintain and build on the existing support base with a vision for financial sustainability and growth.
  • Direct Ministry – You will be a minister of the Gospel and work directly with students in one or two clubs, depending on context.
  • Administrative Support – You will be responsible for maintaining current and accurate lists and information relative to the ministries with which you work.
  • Teamwork and Community Engagement – You will work with the local committee to build community connections and support the overall organization of the area.
  • Be active in staff meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Mature and active relationship with Jesus Christ, a part of a local church, and lives a God-fearing life in all areas in accordance with Young Life’s Faith and Conduct Policy.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience as a volunteer leader within Young Life or other similar ministry context.
  • Proven relational skills in ministry with adolescents.
  • Able to lead a team of people toward a common vision.
  • Demonstrates a level of teachability, humility, and accountability to those who lead and follow.
  • Demonstrates a desire to reach ALL KIDS and an ability to adapt ministry based on race, gender, identity, socio-economic, etc.
  • Proficient in communication: verbal, written, and digital.
  • Ability to manage various projects and schedules with attention to details.
  • Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative, vision, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
