Staff Associate I — ​ Wheaton, IL

Description:

Wheaton Young Life is looking for a staff person to lead ministry at Wheaton North High School and supervise a large team of leaders who are primarily in college. Beyond the kid and leader work, this staff person will need to continue to deepen existing relationships while also be excited to create new relationships, including faculty at the school, parents, donors, youth workers and pastors in the area. Young Life has been present at Wheaton North High School for more than a decade and has experienced the full ebb and flow of kid and adult engagement. We are currently in a healthy season of ministry with a thriving volunteer leader team. This position will be working with an area director, another Young Life ministry director, a WyldLife director, and an administrator. In addition, you will share an office with a neighboring Young Life area with two full-time staff and one of our associate regional directors. There is a strong built-in community among the staff. Wheaton is a western suburb of Chicago and a 50-minute train ride from downtown.

Responsibilities:

The staff person's focus ​is to lead the charge in direct ministry and care for and develop leaders.

The main responsibilities include the following:

  • Work closely with the area director, Wheaton Warrenville South Young Life director and WyldLife staff.
  • Provide spiritual leadership and ministry direction to leaders.
  • Recruit and train leaders.
  • Build community and parent support teams.
  • Model excellent relational work with kids.
  • Do effective club, Campaigners and camp ministry.
  • Strengthen teams of people (leaders and parents) to support and grow the local ministry.
  • Complete the necessary administrative tasks that go into running club, Campaigners, leader meetings, trips, area-wide fundraisers, etc.
  • Fulfill Young Life training courses (New Staff, Leadership I & II, and Winter Training).

Qualifications:

  • Young Life or similar youth ministry experience required.
  • Finished and graduated from a Young Life Leader Training program (not required, but preferred).
  • Must raise $15,000 of personal support and be excited to grow in the area of fundraising.
  • Humble and teachable attitude.

Notes:

Wheaton is a great western suburb of Chicago. It is located about 30 miles outside the city and about a 50-minute train ride. There are two large high schools (2,200+) and four middle schools in the school district. Wheaton College has a strong presence in the community and is where we recruit many of our leaders.
