Staff Associate, WyldLife (Part-Time) — Petoskey, MI

Description:

Young Life is on mission to recruit, equip and train a team of volunteer leaders to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. WyldLife is our branch of Young Life who pursues this mission with middle school students.

Responsibilities:

Leadership Development (50%) - “Equipping leaders” through recruiting, training and sustaining a team of volunteer leaders and committee.

  • Meet with your volunteer leaders and area director on a regular basis.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Learn to recruit and train new leaders to build a leadership team that reflects the community.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping to other leaders.
  • Work to build a long-term sustainable WyldLife ministry.
  • Collaborate with the area director for training leaders.
  • Complete Young Life Leadership and Core Training classes.

Direct Ministry (30%) - “Proclaiming and modeling” the Gospel through contact work, club, Campaigners and camp.

  • Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
  • Lead a team to plan and conduct WyldLife club and discipleship ministry with excellence.
  • Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for Petoskey WyldLife.
  • Develop strong relationships with other community members investing in students (e.g., teachers, school administration, youth ministers, etc.).

Resource Development (10%) - “Fueling the ministry” through Personal Donor Development, events, donor care and public relations.

  • Raise a team of monthly and annual givers to support you and WyldLife Petoskey.
  • Develop a plan to regularly thank and connect donors with WyldLife ministry.
  • Participate in area fundraising and public relations events.
  • Lead camp trip fundraising efforts for WyldLife Petoskey

Spiritual Development (5%) - “Following Jesus” through prayer, spiritual disciplines, community, growth, health and church relationships.

  • Lead by example as a healthy person — spiritually, emotionally and physically.
  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word.
  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines in the context of active participation in a church community.
  • Actively participate in the leader weekend, prayer and spiritual formation of leaders.

Ministry Support (5%) - “Taking Care of Business” through accounting, administration, communication, data management and strategic planning.

  • Accounting: Maintain accurate budgets and expense reports.
  • Communication: Practice good communication via email, phone and text. Know and use Google Drive, spreadsheets, social media and Salesforce.
  • Data management: Maintain accurate information on students, leaders and donors.

Qualifications:

  • A mature commitment to Jesus and Christian faith as evidenced by life transformation and spiritual growth.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit to build a new ministry.
  • Social work background (preferred).
  • Belong to a local church.
  • Experience (volunteer or paid) with students.
  • Proven relational skills with both students and adults.
  • Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • College degree (preferred).

Notes:

There are three part-time jobs available in our area. For the right candidate, a full-time role consisting of two part-time roles could be created.
