Area Director I or II — Wenatchee, WA

Description:

Young Life in North Central Washington (NCW YL) is seeking a motivated, strategic leader who enjoys and is skilled at building teams and creating mission community. NCW YL is anchored in Wenatchee, and includes neighboring the towns of Entiat and Waterville. NCW YL currently has WyldLife, Young Life, and Capernaum with committed volunteer leaders and committee. The area has a strong base of support and legacy.

The Young Life community is resilient and faithful with generations of impact from Young Life, with good connections within the church and business community. It is a diverse area ethnically, politically, and economically. There is great potential for YoungLives, Young Life College at Wenatchee Valley College, and growth in reaching the Latino/x community.

Responsibilities:

  • Building a healthy and growing volunteer leadership team
  • Facilitate connectedness and consistency throughout the area
  • Work with the committee chair and committee to support the area to foster community involvement and resources
  • Shepherd, train, develop and support leaders and staff
  • Work on teams and delegate responsibilities to teammates to maximize impact
  • Lead the area vision and strategy for direct ministry to adolescents including: contact work, club, Campaigners and camp
  • Provide regular communication for the committee, parents, financial partners, volunteers, and the community
  • Alongside the committee, be responsible for donor care, revenue and expenses, as well as planning for future financial goals needed to support growth of the area.

Ministry Functions:

Spiritual Development —​ “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships - individually and shoulder-to-shoulder with the community.

Leadership Development —​ “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.

  • Develop consistent gatherings with committee, leaders and staff to build unity and provide vision and direction.
  • Create and lead a spiritual leadership plan for volunteer leaders, staff and committee members in the area.
  • Recruit and train staff and leaders to build leadership teams that reflect the community.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping to other leaders.

Resource Development —​ “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and Relationship Centered Engagement (RCE) team.

  • Develop and lead the area’s fundraising strategy and communication to donors, along with the committee.
  • Proven ability to manage finances
  • Cultivate relational ministry with donors
  • Work with the committee to raise the necessary funds to carry out the ministry vision for the local area (goal is a 1-2 months cash reserve minimum).
  • Work with the committee to coordinate and conduct quality events which reflect Young Life’s capacity to impact kids and warrant the investment of a participant’s personal and corporate resources.

Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp. Serve as a player/coach (engage with director ministry while coaching and leading those in direct ministry)

  • Going together with leaders and actively engaging in all three levels of contact work.
  • Observe and evaluate each of the schools/ministries in the local area on a yearly basis.
  • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life property, other Young Life camp or in another position each summer.

Ministry Support — “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.

  • Adhere to and support all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management.
  • Manage finances with stewardship, accountability and transparency using the mission-wide applications.
  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders and donors for area records.
  • Execute a clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication strategy

Training:

  • Participate in required training or experiences if deemed necessary by your supervisor or Young Life

Working Conditions:

  • Will include the extremes of a camp assignment, e.g., heat/cold, dirt, long hours and the physical demands of hiking, horseback riding, boating, etc. Staff person must be able to handle these conditions.
  • Expect to travel on average 1-2 days each month for regional meetings.
  • Because NCW Young Life is made up of a collection of towns, it will mean consistent in-person presence (2-3 times a month) with leaders/adults in each of the neighboring communities.

  • Passion for sharing Jesus Christ with adolescents and helping them grow in their faith
  • A team-builder who is comfortable with creating unity with a diverse group of people and fostering a mission community in a wide geographical area.
  • Can Invest and care for leaders to develop them into the next level of their leadership
  • Is a self-starter
  • Vision for working with local churches, organizations, and schools
  • Ability to fundraise and share the heart of Young Life with adults
  • College degree preferred
  • Completed training to be an area director or the equivalent
  • Live (or relocate) within the geography of the Young Life area (Wenatchee Valley)
