Associate Area Director — Greeley, CO

Description:

Greeley is a diverse city with a small town feel in Northern Colorado located 30 minutes east of Fort Collins and one hour north of Denver. It is home to the University of Northern Colorado and approximately 110,000 people. So many people in Greeley are committed to Young Life flourishing here -- from churches to local businesses to the school district -- the city is interconnected and the people believe in creating an environment for the community to thrive.

Young Life has had a consistent presence in Greeley for more than 20 years and is currently in an exciting time of growth. Post-COVID, we have had to re-start our ministries, and that positioned the area to assess its vision and strategy in a very exciting way. The area currently has an area director, a mission staff focused on Young Life College, a mission staff focused on WyldLife, two student staff, and an administrator.

We are looking for an associate area director who is excited about expanding outreach in Greeley, primarily through building intentionally multiethnic ministry in the coming years. The starting point would be launching a healthy WyldLife club at one of our public schools and eventually launching a second club at the high school those kids will attend.

The population in Greeley’s public schools is more than 70% Latinx. There is a large immigrant and refugee population, and there are more than 80 languages spoken in our district, the largest one, behind English, being Spanish. We believe we are called to reach every kid in our city and to create a culture of belonging for all kids in our community. It is vital that this staff person have the vision and desire to invest in the Latinx community here in Greeley.

Our area director serves on the Regional Diversity, Equity, and Belonging Task Force and is committed to centering the most marginalized in the room. She is willing to adapt how we do ministry to serve the kids and leaders in our city, instead of doing things “how we’ve always done them.” She is also committed to developing an equitable fundraising model to pave the way to a staff team that reflects our city, without funding being a barrier.

A qualified candidate will have the opportunity to advance in responsibility with the ultimate goal of overseeing Young Life ministry and future staff for all public schools in Greeley, including three high schools and five middle schools.
