Royal Gorge Young Life in Cañon City has a rich history and a promising future! We are looking to hire a staff associate to lead high school and middle school ministry. This role is crucial to our area strategy and will impact our community in many ways. We are seeking a staff associate with vision for the future and a desire to directly impact students today.

This role would focus energy on the existing Young Life club, develop WyldLife ministry and partner with our YoungLives ministry that is active in the area. Cañon City sits along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with easy access to many of the outdoor adventures and activities Colorado has to offer.

We are eager to welcome a staff associate to lead and serve alongside our existing staff team of part-time staff and a vibrant committee. She or he will develop volunteers, engage adults and invest in the lives of students while doing the necessary work to serve and equip them well. The staff associate should expect to be trained well — locally, regionally and through national training opportunities. This position is an exciting opportunity for someone who celebrates diversity, is ready to do the work of growing and developing ministry, and believes that together we best reflect the truth of the Gospel.

Responsibilities:

The role of staff associate is such a vital part of area growth, development and sustainability. It is also a place where you will be mentored by and share community with other staff people, as you lead volunteers and reach out to students. This staff person can expect to:

  • Work closely with senior staff in the region to create a strategy for effective ministry.
  • Recruit volunteers and lead them in this ministry.
  • Participate in and lead dynamic direct ministry in the area (club, Campaigners, contact work, camp).
  • Train and equip a community of volunteer leaders who love each other and are growing in spiritual depth to plan and implement outreach ministry with excellence.
  • Work with area stakeholders to coordinate and lead adventures: leader retreats, winter trips, summer trips, etc.
  • Serve on summer and school season assignments at a Young Life camp.
  • Develop key relationships with adults in the Royal Gorge Area.
  • Raise financial support as directed.
  • Care for donors well by sharing the area’s vision and ministry successes.
  • Complete Young Life training courses (New Staff Training, Leadership I, Leadership II, Winter Training, and Apologetics).
  • Attend regional staff associate training and learn alongside other staff associates in the Front Range Region.

Qualifications:

  • A healthy, growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • A passion for ministry in a diverse community.
  • A heart for kids and the ministry of Young Life/WyldLife and the ability to lead spiritually.
  • Young Life volunteer leader experience (student staff or equivalent experience preferred).
  • Proven relational and leadership skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Willingness to raise personal financial support.
  • Ready to commit to making an impact on this area’s growth.
  • This role is intended for someone who wants to begin her or his Young Life staff journey or grow in his or her Young Life staff leadership abilities and responsibilities. With time, there will be opportunities to grow into more senior roles in the area.
