A full-time area director to lead current and new ministries in Aiken, S.C., located one hour west of Columbia, S.C. Aiken, S.C., is a charming and historic city known for its Southern hospitality, cultural richness, and vibrant community. Nestled in the picturesque Aiken County, this city offers a unique blend of small-town charm and modern amenities. The area is part of the Palmetto Region of Young Life (South Carolina and Greater Charlotte, N.C.).

On staff, Aiken has a staff associate and a part-time Capernaum coordinator. Together, this team will lead 11 volunteer leaders (a mix of adults and college students) and a strong committee of nine adults. There are two active high school clubs and a Capernaum ministry. Currently, Young Life is at Aiken High (where the area director will lead) and South Aiken. There also is a new Capernaum ministry that has a lot of potential for growth.

Young Life started in the early 1990's in Aiken. With a rich history and strong community support, the area has significant growth potential. Currently, the highest priorities are solidifying the existing ministry with an emphasis on discipleship, recruiting volunteer leaders, and building a strong year-round camping ministry.

Markers of Success in the First Three Years

  • Transition well to the area by taking a listening, learning, and leading posture being the “new person.”
  • Create a vision and strategy that reaches the whole area.
  • Build relationships with the committee, key leaders in the community, and the top 30% of the area donor list.
  • Work with the committee on a funding strategy that is larger than the actual budget so that we are positioned for growth.
  • Continue the work at Aiken High, growing the ministry there to see 40 kids going to summer camp.
  • Being a developmental leader for the other staff and volunteer leaders in the area.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing the committee.
  • Partnering with the committee to raise the budget.
  • Develop and train leaders at USCB Aiken.
  • Lead at Aiken High School.
  • Train and develop a staff associate and part-time Capernaum director.

Qualifications:

  • If applying, you must have completed Young Life’s Staff Associate training.
  • The new area director will need to be someone who demonstrates:

    - Energized by recruiting leaders.

    - A vision for all kids (differing races, socio-economic status, and abilities).

    - A high character that is deeply rooted in their relationship with Christ.

    - An entrepreneurial spirit and is self-motivated.

    - Ability to have a vision, create goals, and execute toward those goals.

    - Great chemistry with others.

    - Teachable spirit and willing to align with ministry strategies taught in the Palmetto Region.
