Area Director I — Columbia, SC

Columbia is part of a larger metro area called the Midlands comprised of four areas with area directors as well as YoungLives, Capernaum, YL One, and Young Life College. The Columbia area is the oldest area and has spurred on the growth of the entire metro. The pipeline for leaders come from the University of South Carolina. Since this is an area director role within a larger metro, the job requires someone to be a real team player and collaborative in nature.

Responsibilities:

  • Transition well to the area by taking a listening, learning, and leading posture being the “new person.”
  • Create a vision and strategy that reaches the whole area.
  • Engage strategically with key donors and stakeholders.
  • Work with the committee on a funding strategy that is larger than the actual budget so we’re positioned for growth.
  • Build upon the momentum happening in WyldLife and Young Life with the goal of having a flagship club.
  • Recruit, train, and develop volunteer leaders.
  • Supervision of staff associates in the area.

Qualifications:

  • Completed Young Life’s Staff Associate training.
  • Someone who is energized by recruiting leaders and working with college students.
  • Someone who has a vision for all kids (differing races, socio-economic status, and abilities).
  • An eagerness to work in a metro setting and build synergy with nearby staff.
  • The ability to oversee multiple staff associates and student staff.
  • Someone of high character that is deeply rooted in their relationship with Christ.
  • Someone who has an entrepreneur spirit and is self-motivated.
  • Able to have a vision, create goals, and execute toward those goals.
  • Has great chemistry with others.
