Young Life of South Orange County is seeking a new full-time associate area director to work closely with the area director and committee to grow the direct ministry in San Clemente, Calif. We are looking for someone with Young Life experience who is ready to lead and develop the ministries of San Clemente Young Life and WyldLife. We need a strong spiritual leader, kid magnet, leader recruiter/developer with high relational skills and a proven track record of success. We are looking for an ambitious self-starter and visionary who can connect with all kinds of kids and leaders. San Clemente Young Life needs someone with passion, tenacity and a desire to be developed in their own leadership as they work in a team setting.
Young Life ministry has existed off and on in San Clemente for close to 30 years. Today, we have a thriving WyldLife at one of the three public middle schools in town (set to send 25 freshmen to the high school in the fall), and a diverse Young Life club in the beginning stages after a restart at San Clemente High (SCHS). Our vision to grow the ministry first includes building a solid team of leaders and creating a thriving flagship high school club at SCHS and later starting up WyldLife at the other two public middle schools in the next few years.
Area Information
The South Orange County area is healthy with resources and is led by Area Director Grant Waggoner, who has been involved in Young Life for close to 20 years. We are a fun group of hard-working people in an amazing place that has a need and desire for Young Life. There is a strong and active committee for the South Orange County area with much representation and a heart specifically for the city of San Clemente. The brand of Young Life is solid, and we have healthy relationships with churches and adults in the community.
One fun fact about San Clemente is that it is geographically isolated on three sides: on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the east and south by the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base. This gives the city of more than 75,000 a unique small town feel with a strong surf culture influence that penetrates many aspects of the community life. You will hear it over and again because residents take great pride in the fact that San Clemente is a “One High School Town.” The high school has approximately 3,000 kids and each of the three middle schools hold 600-800 students. The cultural makeup at the high school is predominantly 63% White and 26% Hispanic.
Young Life of South Orange County has grown deeper and wider over the past several years and needs a leader to take this significant city of San Clemente into the next season of ministry so that more kids will meet Jesus and grow in their faith!
