Area Director I (South Valley) — Morgan Hill, CA

South Valley Young Life spans the South Bay Area communities of Gilroy and Morgan Hill, encompassing four public high schools, several middle schools, and thousands of teenagers needing the hope of Jesus Christ.

With more than a decade of Young Life history in this area, South Valley provides a close-knit, community oasis from nearby metropolitan Silicon Valley. With many residents being Bay Area commuters, there is a desire to invest where they live and see their neighborhoods and young people flourish. The area director has an opportunity to continue leading high school ministries in both Gilroy and Morgan Hill, while launching WyldLife, Capernaum and YoungLives.

Two established, high school campuses with years of Young Life history that welcome Young Life. Staff contacts at Sobrato (Morgan Hill) and Christopher (Gilroy), as well as Britton (Morgan Hill) Middle School. Multiple volunteer leaders with years of Young Life, coaching and South Valley experience, including two former Young Life staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate spiritual leadership, personally, for the volunteers and students in the area.
  • Model excellence in leading students through contact work, Campaigners, club and camp trips.
  • Supervise, recruit and train a broad range of volunteer leaders -- college age to retirees.
  • Engage and network within the community, partnering with local churches and organizations to maintain and improve credibility and presence with adults in the area.
  • Flexibility and adaptability with scheduling and planning, given the lifestyle and nature of the Bay Area working professional and overly involved students.
  • Ability to communicate and work with adult committee members and parents through communicating needs and scheduled activities.
  • Develop/retain donor relationships through personalized contacts as well as large group events. Cast clear vision for the area to the donor base.

Qualifications:

  • A deep and growing faith in Jesus.
  • A call to reach students with the Gospel.
  • Proven spiritual leader.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • College degree.
  • Young Life Staff Associates completed.
  • Area director experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in extreme conditions of a camp including: heat/cold, dirt, long hours and physical demands. Staff person must be able to handle these conditions.
  • Experience as a successful developer of an area board and supervising local staff and volunteers.
  • Must be growing in both emotional and cultural intelligence.
