Regional Director - Mali Region
Description
Young Life International Africa East Division is seeking a Regional Director to serve and give leadership to the region. We are seeking an experienced Young Life staff person who is ready for the next level of leadership (internal candidate). This is an exciting opportunity to lead our current staff team, as well as grow this territory to reach new communities. This is a full-time position which requires a senior leadership level of personal support.
Mission & Authority
Develop people and places in his or her assigned region and throughout the mission to increase Young Life’s effectiveness in bringing kids to Christ. Care for, support, encourage, manage and challenge existing areas and facilitate creation of new areas.
General Expectations:
Spiritual Integrity - ESSENTIAL PREREQUISITES FOR ALL STAFF MEMBERS (FROM YOUNG LIFE’S BYLAWS – ARTICLE VII): “Because of Young Life’s exclusive Christian purposes of evangelism and discipleship as set forth in its Articles of Incorporation and in these Bylaws, and to reflect what has always been and will continue to be the position of Young Life, specifically the Christian belief that each and every employee and volunteer of the corporation should minister as a servant of God with the primary responsibility of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ and, as such, is an integral part of the Christian mission and ministry of the corporation, Young Life shall only employ individuals or enlist volunteer leaders who: (a) profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord; and (b) subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith. Therefore, employees and volunteers of Young Life, during working and nonworking hours, shall: (i) be ready, willing and able to fulfill such ministry functions as may be required by the organization; (ii) refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life, and (iii) abide by all policies and practices of Young Life including, without limitation, those related to religious belief or ministry activities.”

Essential Duties:
Spiritual Development — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.
- Recruit, screen, place, train, supervise, support, encourage and evaluate all area directors and metro staff and regular office administrators.
- Supervise DGL program including candidate screening, compliance, and effective mentoring and training.
- Ensure area leadership strategies are producing healthy people, healthy teams and healthy ministry.
- Supervise and evaluate Young Life staff in their leadership development, personal spiritual formation and their area ministry.
- Develop staff and volunteers to reflect the diversity of their community (e.g., professional and unemployed, different tribes, different church affiliations, etc.)
- Network with community leaders, school leaders, parents, church leaders, and potential donors to share the YL vision and enlist their support.Exemplify through personal care of your own soul and prayer life, a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Lead others in a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, ensuring the health of staff and vibrant ministry.
- Ensure that all ministry in the region is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer; help all area directors have a written prayer strategy along with the regional office.
Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.

- Network with community leaders, school leaders, parents, church leaders, and potential donors to share the YL vision and enlist their support.
Strategy and Vision — Develop and implement a multiple year regional plan
- Help staff and areas develop strategies to adhere with the Young Life mission goals and ensure that these strategies are implemented.
- Ensure a regional plan is in place to grow Young Life in the region, including specialized ministries.
- Ensure the ministry of Young Life is carried out with excellence through regular area visits.
- Ensure a regional plan is in place to develop a Regional Pipeline for staff
Financial Management and Donor Support
- Budgeting and oversight of expenditures.
- Communication with donors and sponsors and leading other key staff to do the same.
- Hosting work teams and casting vision
Camping – Oversee camping strategy within the region
- With the Senior Vice President for Africa, monitor all camping in the region to ensure quality standards are met.
- Manage staff within the region to assist in supplying excellent staff to fill assignment positions at Young Life camps.
- Manage camper and work crew quota allocation to areas in the region. Provide training for work crew and summer staff.
Administration – Follow all Young Life policies and procedures
- Ensure and enforce compliance with established policies and procedures in both the regional office and in all areas in the region.
- Be “on time” with regional administration tasks, including budgets, statistical reports, etc.
Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp.
- Contact Work – The foundation of YL ministry model; going where young people are and building relationships with them. Contact work includes meeting new kids and nurturing ongoing relationships with existing kids.
- Club – organize, promote, and host excellent clubs in which you regularly speak.
- Campaigners – prepare, promote, and lead weekly Bible study discipleship small group as well as mentoring relationship to help young people grow in their faith.
- Camp – in addition to planning and promoting camp, you should bring and lead your own cabin of kids.
- Kid leadership tree – 3 kids who are mentored by you to reproduce themselves as Kingdom leaders.
Job-Specific Working Conditions
- Could include the extremes of a camp assignment, e.g. heat/cold, dirt, long hours and the physical demands of hiking, horseback riding, boating, etc. Staff person must be able to handle these conditions.

Qualifications:
Education
- College degree preferred.
Experience Required for the Job
- Completion of Core Training — Phase One
- Must be able to supervise at a distance.
- Proven spiritual leader.
- Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
