Vice President Learning & Leadership - International
Mission & Authority
This senior leadership role is responsible for building missional communities that boost trust, connection, and communication among all international divisions to promote lateral learning, foster collaboration, and advocacy for needed resources.
This position is accountable for operating in leadership modes other than “authority-based”. i.e. influence, with the ability to think and plan strategically, developing realistic plans that can be effectively communicated to key ministry partners and constituents, as well demonstration of a humble spirit and possesses the capacity to attentively address pressing mission requirements.
Essential Duties:
Spiritual Development
- Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, study, prayer, and worship.
- Ensure that all Young Life work is designed and carried out with an awareness of and in alignment with Young Life’s Values and Methods.
- Develop strong spiritual disciplines and accountability considering possible distance supervision and travel schedule.
Culture
- Be the visible, present “Culture Carrier.”
- Lead, shape, and advance Young Life’s culture and core mission.
- Elevate the collective capability of the Learning and leadership organization.
- Make employee engagement a frictionless activity, which yields deep insights and effective actions.
Day to day
- Growth and development of staff, volunteers/leaders, and committee throughout each division.
- Facilitate and lead in the support of the “KNOWN” campaign and SVP’s executions in each geography, as well as implementation of Workday or other mission-wide campaigns/programs.
- Support staff and leaders through the i100 framework to champion global leaders.
- Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
- Lead others in accountability of spiritual disciplines (solitude, retreat, reflection, study, prayer, and worship) considering distance supervision and travel schedule.
- Proclaim and model ministry by providing both spiritual and executive leadership to staff, volunteers, donors, and committee members.
- Lead with joy and courage to develop and cast the vision for reaching “every kid” within the mission appropriate to the work that is being led.
- Deploy best practices for identifying, developing, training, and empowering staff and leaders (men and women) to build a pipeline for growth and healthy ministry to include multi-ethnic (tribe/culture/nation) ministries.
- Invest in and provide support by establishing connections with Learning Coordinators, guided by clarity and a mission-oriented mindset.
- Ability to recognize shared themes among diverse visions and establish cohesion through discernment by identifying resources themes and needs, while maintaining a focus on reaching the next kid.
Executive and Financial Leadership
- Contribute to the mission’s operational transformation and growth plans and build a spirit of collaboration and cooperation across the mission.
- Equip and lead a team focused on fulfilling the mission of Young Life while also effectively stewarding the financial and operational resources to fulfill Young Life’s mission and vision.
- Work with mission leadership and SVP peers to solve key development challenges.
- Lead in partnership with SVPs to unify Learning Coordinators with support and connection.
- Drive strong communication plans that share the Mission, Methods, Vision, and Values.
- Maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct, and time management.
- Provide clear, prompt, appropriate, and professional communication to everyone within the scope of ministry in alignment with leadership initiatives, policies, and procedures.
- Manage finances with stewardship, accountability, and transparency using the mission-wide applications.
- Coordinate effective relationships between Property, Field, Development, and Mission Services staff.
- Build and grow Young Life’s rapport with and network of potential partners, donors, staff, and board.
- Support International Young Life development goals and collaborate on shared adventures with prospective donors where appropriate.
- Build and create partnerships throughout international geographies.
- Monitor and track the progress of students, staff, and volunteers as they engage in online and in-person learning courses aligned with curriculum.
- Support geographies with management of translation projects.
- Foster opportunities for lateral learning experiences.

Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience Required for the Job
- Ability to provide exceptional leadership to direct and indirect teams through the establishment of a compelling vision, along with effective guidance and support for the future.
- Prior experience in driving transformation initiatives in a global environment, coupled with demonstrated success in developing and implementing expansive strategies for a dynamic missional community.
- Experienced in change management and the learning aspects that accompany transformative change.
- Ability to build a healthy culture, steeped in spiritual disciplines, truth, transparency, curiosity, and innovation.
- Proficient in establishing and fostering effective relationships within and beyond divisions, promoting collaboration across the mission to include enabling functions such as Financial Services, Human Resources, and Legal.
- Extensive global experience in collaborative, matrixed environments, leading diverse teams on impactful spiritual initiatives with widespread geographic reach aligned with missional objectives.
- Skilled in collaborating with executive leadership to optimize existing strategies and provide guidance on future mission-focused initiatives.
- Full and personal integration of Map – Tree – List.
- Ability to lead and develop people of different cultures and backgrounds, given the global and diverse nature of the kids we reach.
- Exposure to HOT (Hands-on Training) experiences.
- Exposure to non-English diverse learning experiences.
- Theological wisdom in knowledge and practice, with the ability to teach theologically with a Young Life and global perspective.
- Approaches learning and ministry with a passion for learning in a global setting.
- Demonstrates composure and collaboration with diverse personalities in an international ministry setting with resilience in the face of disagreement.
- Interest in and ability to influence culture to align with mission and strategic goals.
- Effective high-level leader skilled in collaborative teamwork, sharing authority, and playing diverse roles to contribute toward mission success.
- Seeks and actively engages in a church community, prioritizing relationships, and spiritual disciplines.
