Vice President of Field Ministries, International
Mission & Authority
This leadership role is responsible for building missional communities that introduce adolescents to Christ and help them grow in their faith. This role is accountable for the spiritual leadership, ministry oversight, and overall execution of strategic initiatives within a specified region.
Essential Duties:
- Growing, retaining and developing new and long-term national and regional leaders
- Equipping and leading a team focused on fulfilling the mission and vision of Young Life
- Stewarding the financial and operational resources to fulfill this mission and vision
- Courageous and compelling vision casting for staff and major donors--to raise strategic capital for critical projects and ministry growth
- Facilitating clear internal and external communications to include the following: public and governmental relations, strategic planning, mission wide program implementation, facilities management, financial and human resource clarity
- Developing and implementing “Known” and/or other Divisional and Mission-wide campaigns and strategic plans
Spiritual Development
- Actively pursuing a relationship with the Triune God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit
- Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, study, prayer, sabbath, worship, and church participation
- Ensure that all Young Life ministry is designed and carried out with a dependence on the Bible, prayer and connection to the local church
- Develop strong spiritual disciplines and accountability taking into consideration, distance supervision and travel schedule
- Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development
Ministry Development and Management
- Proclaim and model ministry by providing both spiritual and/or leadership to staff, volunteers, donors and committee members
- Lead with joy and courage to develop and cast the vision for reaching “all kids” within the division
- Deploy best practices for identifying, developing, training and empowering national staff and leaders to build a pipeline for growth and healthy ministry to include focus and multi-ethnic (tribe/culture/nation) ministries. This may also include supervision of expatriates from the United States or other countries
- Oversee camping responsibilities to include operational and culturally appropriate standards of quality
- Coordinate and manage effective relationships with Young Life Expeditions, development staff and camping staff
Leadership Responsibilities
- Drive strong communication plans that share the Mission, Vision, Values and Methods
- Oversee the development and implementation of measurable plans for the health, nurture and encouragement of staff, volunteer leaders and committee members
- In coordination with functional teams/leads, ensure country boards are fulfilling necessary duties and that healthy relationships with board members exist
- Ensure compliance with Young Life’s established policies and procedures as well as geographic (local country) policies, procedures and laws
- Establish and cast vision for committees and/or action teams
Financial Stewardship
- Oversee financial health including funding the ministry vision by identifying and cultivating donors and managing and overseeing budgets.
- In coordination with Development Services, ensure the development of indigenous fundraising
Travel
- 50% travel required; up to 70% travel may be expected from time to time.

Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
Experience Required for the Job
- 15+ years’ progressive ministry experience with a minimum of 5+ years in a leadership role building and overseeing missional community; YL and international experience highly preferred
- Ability to provide exceptional leadership to direct and indirect teams by creating credible vision for the future and enlisting and providing direction and support
- Proven results impacting a diverse group of kids within sight and out of reach
- Ability to build a healthy culture, steeped in spiritual disciplines, truth, transparency, curiosity and innovation
- Adept at building collaborative and productive relationships across the Mission
- Ability to take a holistic view of programs, offerings and capabilities to drive excellence

Key Deliverables
Vision
- Next kid framework (attached) – a clear understanding and collaboration with how the Holy Spirit is leading a movement to kids
- The centrality of Map, List and Tree as core and integrative to how LAC does ministry.
- Goal setting with divisional and regional functional teams
Resources
- Local:
- Local giving initiatives integrated and woven into the cultural fabric of ministry in their geography
- Working with Regional Directors and their staff, add significant new supportive contacts and Action teams build from club level up in each country / major city
- Capture and track engagement of all constituents and communications in YL Connect CRM
- Continue with personal fundraising efforts and goals
- Divisional:
- Seek the collaboration of all ministry funding partners including Action teams, SVP, Executive Campaign Committee, SAT, Developing Global Leaders, etc.
- Lead effort to raise 100% of funding in each country
Leadership Development
- In partnership with LAC SVP, identify and recruit qualified candidates for Regional Director roles based in each country who will demonstrate broad vision and capability to provide leadership to their entire country
- Willingness to collaborate with peers to consider staff relocations or promotions elsewhere if they might thrive on a next assignment or if another geography or country needs assistance/talent
- Additional field and support staffing will be the responsibility of the Regional Director, accountable to the Vice President and the SVP
- Serves on Divisional Team and possibly other missional teams and contributes broadly towards Divisional and Group goals
- Coordinates and participates with Divisional initiatives and other specialty ministries where appropriate
Ministry Support
- In collaboration with Divisional team, Divisional Operations team and relevant Young Life departments, determine and establish appropriate legal entity structure in each country / major city.
- Identify and establish relationships with suitable partners and functional teams at all appropriate levels
- Maintain and supervise functional teams to ensure compliance with laws and mission priorities from the beginning and throughout the process
Qualifications
- 15+ years’ experience in Young Life management and development roles, preferably with extensive international experience, along with local language fluency and core English proficiency.
- Driven and self-motivated with excellent time management skills to meet deadlines
- College Degree and/or advanced ministry training/certification in related field preferred
- Residency in geography supervised
- Proven development and leadership experience demonstrating the following:

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and relational skills with an ability to manage diverse, cross-cultural networks
- Ability to fundraise and manage complex budgets and campaigns
- Strong strategic planning with ability to design and manage culturally relevant events and communication to achieve results
